Watching Jeff effortlessly play the most challenging guitar classics is inspiring. He knows the top-secret stuff, and really enjoys sharing his wealth of guitar technique. Beginners will enjoy Jeff’s patience and sense of humor; advanced students will appreciate Jeff’s ability to deconstruct high-level rock and metal guitar.
Jeff started his musical journey at the age of 12, with a beat up acoustic guitar, in a small town in Pennsylvania. He spent a few years locked in his bedroom learning the standard classic rock songs, and soon found his interests broadening to jazz, and classical music. At Duquesne University Jeff studied theory, technique, ear training, and recording technology before moving to Los Angeles to join the booming heavy metal scene.
In Los Angeles, Jeff was certified as a recording engineer from Musicians Institute, and then spent many years touring the world with bands as a hired-gun guitarist. Jeff is very passionate about sharing his joy and experience with aspiring musicians. Teaching for Jeff means, “Showing students all the things that I wish I had known starting out, so they can progress much more quickly than I did!”
Jeff likes to use his students’ favorite songs to teach theory and technique, and places a emphasis on “playing with the ears, not with the fingers” in order to help students advance in practical, real-world ways.
Jeff’s favorite musicians include: Rory Gallagher, Queen, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Rush, Uli Jon Roth, Yngwie Malmsteen, Mercyful Fate, Jason Becker, Megadeth, Rhapsody, Symphony X, Angra, Kiko Loureiro, Opeth, Ghost, Bach, Vivaldi, Mendelssohn
Jeff’s favorite thing about living in LA is the music scene, and his least favorite is the lack of Italian food.
