FAQ For New Students

The secret is out about our teachers. We try to accommodate as many students as possible, but often have waiting lists for popular time-slots. With this in mind, a few simple guidelines:

 • Please be consistent with attendance – you are holding a space in your teacher’s calendar that is unavailable to other students.
 • If you need to reschedule a lesson, please arrange for a makeup with your teacher.
 • Please remember that we require 24 hours notice to reschedule or cancel a lesson.

Easy right? Now for your reading pleasure, here is a our mini-FAQ for new students:

Answers to common questions

What materials should I bring to my lesson?

We recommend that all students bring your instrument, a music notebook, and a pencil.

You are also encouraged to bring any music you enjoy or would like to explore (if you have experience, and have preexisting materials).

*If you don’t have an instrument, it’s ordinarily okay to use one of your teacher’s extra instruments during your lesson. Just please ask first.

If you are a guitar student, you don’t need to bring an amp – just your guitar (for studio lessons). Drummers and pianists (folks who play large instruments), are not expected to bring instruments to studio lessons.

What is your rescheduling and attendance policy?

We require at least 24hrs notice to reschedule lessons. We ask students to please be as consistent as possible with attendance, since you are reserving a place in your teacher’s calendar that is unavailable to other students.

If you are sick on the day of your lesson, please stay home, as a consideration to your teacher and other students. Please let us know, but kindly understand that our 24hr policy applies, as it would be too late to offer your spot to another student.

How can I reschedule a lesson?

Easy! Just contact your teacher.

How do you handle vacations?

Please let your teacher know about your upcoming vacation or holiday, and arrange for a makeup lesson.

How does payment work?

We do lessons on an ongoing basis – payment is auto-renew. If you need to stop lessons, please give generous notice, so that we know what times are available for other students.

I have a billing question?

Please contact our office: (310) 893-0776, info@redpelicanmusic.com

What kind of notice is expected for discontinuing lessons?

Once you are a regular student, we expect 30 days notice – this allows us to smoothly fill your soon-to-be open time, with minimal disruption, and maximal courtesy to your teacher.

If you are a brand new student, and need to stop lessons, kindly give us as much notice as possible.

How do you keep track of lessons?

After every lesson, our teachers submit dates, attendance, and notes to our cloud-based system. We keep very detailed records to ensure accuracy.

Have fun learning, and please let us know if you have any questions!
