Susie earned a doctorate in piano performance from University of Southern California, where she was awarded a merit-based full scholarship. As nice as she is talented, Susie’s supportive teaching style and many years of experience makes her a wonderful choice for piano lessons for kids and adults of all levels and styles. Susie spent her childhood in South Korea, before moving to the United States for university. She is fluent in both English and Korean.
Susie has performed throughout USA, Europe and South Korea. She has received numerous scholarships and awards in national and international piano competitions and music festivals including Brevard Summer Institute and Festival, and the Bosendorfer International Piano Academy (Vienna, Austria). Susie was also a first prizewinner in Jan and Beattie Concerto Competition at Brevard Music Institute and a prizewinner of many South Korean Music competitions. Susie received Bachelor of Music (BM) from University of North Texas where she was awarded with Larry Waltz scholarship (talent based full scholarship). Susie also holds Master of Music (MM) and Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from University of Southern California where she studied with Professor Norman Krieger and Dr. Stewart Gordon.
Susie’s favorite musicians include: Glenn Gould, Martha Argerich, Maria Joao Pires, Bill Evans, Erroll Garner, Jacques Loussier, Oscar Peterson, Mitsuko Uchida, Eddie Higgins, Arthur Rubinstein, Leonard Bernstein, Chick Corea… too many to name!
When not teaching piano, Susie is a huge dessert fan, as she puts it, “ice cream is my major weakness.” 🙂
