Meet Guitar Teacher Jeff Pott’s

Metal guitar lessons - Los Angeles - Red Pelican Music - Jeff

Watching Jeff effortlessly play the most challenging guitar classics is inspiring. He knows the top-secret stuff, and really enjoys sharing his wealth of guitar technique. Beginners will enjoy Jeff’s patience and sense of humor; advanced students will appreciate Jeff’s ability to deconstruct high-level rock and metal guitar.

Jeff started his musical journey at the age of 12, with a beat up acoustic guitar, in a small town in Pennsylvania. At Duquesne University Jeff studied theory, technique, ear training, and recording technology.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need prior experience on the guitar?

Players of all skill levels may take guitar lessons at Red Pelican Music. Our teachers have experience instructing players of all skill levels, and we create customized lessons that allow you to learn at your own pace.

What happens at the first lesson?

That is a great question! Our guitar teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal learning style and musical goals.

Your teacher will ask about your favorite type of music and help you set goals to achieve whatever musical aspirations you (or your child) have. We do not treat every  student the same in terms of what and how we teach.

The main reason to choose Red Pelican Music as your lesson provider is that we are sensitive to the fact that every piano student is an individual.

What age can children start guitar lessons?

The minimum age recommended for starting guitar lessons is 5 years old. Due to the thickness of the strings and fine motor skills needed to play the instrument, we do not recommend starting guitar any younger. For younger students, we recommend learning the ukulele.

The minimum age we recommend a student start ukulele lessons is 4 years old. For younger students, we recommend an intro to music program. Starting age will largely depend on the student, some may need to wait longer than others depending on factors such as fine motor skills, attention span and overall interest in music.
